New Navy Uniforms
New Navy Uniforms
The New Navy Uniforms are set to roll out Summer 2008 and have already been tested in many areas.
From the official Navy website:
The new Navy service uniform for E-6 and below is comprised of a short-sleeve khaki shirt for males and an over-blouse for females, made from a wash and wear 75/25 polyester and wool blend, with permanent military creases, black trousers for males with belt less slacks for females and optional belt less skirt, and a black unisex garrison cap. Silver anodized-metal rank insignia will be worn on shirt/blouse collars and cap. The service uniform will also include a black relaxed-fit Eisenhower-style jacket with a knit stand-up collar and epaulets, on which petty officers will wear large, silver anodized-metal rank insignia. Those entitled to wear gold chevrons will continue to wear gold chevrons on the large metal rank insignia on the jacket.
And from MCPON Scott on the reason for the New Navy Uniforms:
“In our research, we found the group most dissatisfied with their present uniforms were E-6 and below,” Scott said.
Most sailors I’ve talked to disagree with this statement and are unhappy with the new navy uniforms appearance. This is either from a fear of change or a fear of not wanting to look like a Marine.
Myself, personally, I’m not a big fan of the khaki ones but the blue ones seem ok. I’m keeping an open mind on the subject.

As a retired sailor with 21 years 10 months and 22 days. I am sick to my stomach, first they take away the dungree’s, then they take away the utlities. if you look at the guys with the bkack pants and khacki shirt that is a marine. I know I would not want to wear this uniform. I am sure that most sailors joined to not have to be a marine. I have a daughter and a son-in-law in the navy. my daughter says why do not they make up there mind. man I was so up set to read this. I did 15 years on the water 2 amphib’s, 2 cruisers, and 2 oilers. but too see these uniforms. man I bet the 1st class mess and Chief’s mess is bizzing. well I am glad this old sailor does not have to endure wearing this uniform. at least the kept the crackerjacks.

I think they’re gorgeous!! Especially the blue camoflauge one.
Seems like some new idiot idea to change the original uniforms comes out every few years. The traditional Navy uniform is distinctive and easy to care for- especially at sea. These people look like MArines. The camo uniforn is ridiculous- Camo at sea? A design with little fish, kelp and seashells cant be far off.
Damn! Those things are ugly
I have seen it all now. I was given the OPTION as a Navy Corpsman to go Marine Corps Regulation or stay with Navy Regulations. I chose the Navy Regulations as I was not a F*%&$*G Jar Head!!! Granted I was assigned to thohse crazy fools and I enjoyed working with them. But there was no way in hell I was going to look likje them in a dress formation. I took pride wearing my Cracker Jacks as I stood out from the rest. The saying that the Marines are looking for a few good men - They have them there called Navy Corpsman! This new uniform taks away from the tradition of being a sailor. Why look like a Marine. The NAVY was the FIRST SERVICE for this great nation not the Marine Corps. If one looks closely at the Marine Corps flag it states United States Marine Corps - DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY! These new uniforms SUCK!

Why the dog and pony show? Can’t the DoD be honest and admit that they want the uniforms for all branches to be the same to simplify procurement and save money by the standardization. The fact that sailor’s loose their uniqueness is lost to the bean counters who preside in Olympus.
I just got a look at the new uniforms, I can not believe the we are combine the USAF & USMC into the Navy Uniforms. The jr personal are not happy with their uniforms? Since when do they get a vote on this? What happen to tradition? I understand that it is now a new kinder, gentler Navy but I think the “salt” has gone out of the Navy and that things are just going to pot, so to speak. I am retired now, and I work around young sailor, they have no discipline , E1-E3 call the Khaki person by their first name, have to be told what to do every step of the way, do not go out of their way for anything, and complain if they have duty. I do not understand what the military has become.

Yeah…we do have a department, the Men’s Department.
Enjoy looking like Marines, ladies…
I understand tradition as well as anyone being a former squid
myself. But since I’ve been out of the Navy, I’ve had the
opportunity to work with other former members of the other branches
of service and one of their questions to me is why the weird
uniforms. And I’m here to tell you that I’ve always thought that
the uniforms were outdated. I’m pleased to see that the Navy have
come up with a more professional looking uniform for its sailors. I
wish this change would have happened when I was serving. All this
nonsense about looking like a marine needs to stop. If you carry
yourself like a true sailor then there will no mistakes by anyone
as to what branch you serve.
I think these uniforms look great, and look I forward to wearing
them. Endlessly, I hear the older set bemoaning a loss of tradtion
all the time. Why the steadfast need for tradition in everything?
New Navy uniforms. I dont like them. THey will look like the Marine
uniforms and civilians wont be able to tell who is who. WHY IS THE
NAVY ALWAYS TRYING TO LOOK LIKE THE BEST. THE MARINES has a
tradition of being the BEST and they navy shouldnt copy there
fucking uniforms. I SAY GO GRAY not BROwn the marines worked to
hard on tradition and the navy shouldnt fuck it up. I dont care
about the Marines being a department of the NAVY the fact of the
matter is The MARINES should stand alone wth there uniforms/
Who was the idiot that made this change to the uniform. The one thing that separated the Navy from the rest of the services was the uniforms.
This is so dumb.
I am a sailor myself, and I joined to be a sailor. Not a marine. This change is so stupid. We arent set apart from any other military branch.
I haven’t been in for long but I do not want these new uniforms. I just went through boot camp and wearing my utilities and tucking in my shirt and I think the whole not tucking in my shirt looks like crap! I feel like the air force being all lazy and crap. Khaki is for chiefs and officers and that is it. So many other branches has been saluting E-1 - E6 that im just ashamed anymore. Next we get rid of utilities and that’s not going to be much better. The navy is different, we switch uniforms in the winter; why switch our dress uniforms but not our working uniforms? We are just getting lazy.
The new service uniforms hmmmmm… when I first saw them my initial reaction was why in the hell are we emulating the Hilter youth? So after my initial reaction guess what i have not changed my mind we still look like hitler youth. This is not good! We must not try to look more military we must be more military, just changing the uniforms is not going to fix teh underlying problems. ANd dont get me started on the waste of money associated with this or the NWU!!! Waste, Fraud and Abuse IMO when there where good off the shelf solutions out there.
